Description of Services

Nowadays, if we commute from the suburbs to city centres, we basically have two options: we decide between our own car and public transport. If we choose our car, we face traffic jams and an annoying search for a parking spot.

If we choose public transport, we sacrifice our own comfort, time spent on the journey, transfers, and often have a long walk to or from home from the nearest stop. Yet we decide on the method of transport we use in the morning without knowing when or what the conditions will be when we return in the evening.

Another Option

But what if there were a third option that could simplify our decision-making? What if we were guaranteed a comfortable commute back home in the evening? Would we leave our own car at home in the morning?

Mileus connects public transport and ride-hailing services and offers the best of both worlds. It allows us to choose the method that will work best based on whatever‘s happening at the moment — whether it’s a traffic jam or deciding to have a drink and watch the game with our friends after work. It suggests a journey all the way home for us, at any time, using public transport when it is faster than a car, and a transfer to a ride-hail when it makes sense to switch.

This means our journey home will be more comfortable than it would be if we only took public transport, cheaper than if we only took a taxi, and with none of the delays caused by the peak hour traffic when driving our own car. So, every morning we will know that we are going to get home comfortably in the evening whatever our plans might be!

We are Here
for You

01
Improving our
journey home

Mileus makes your journey home more comfortable by combining public transport and ride-hailing services for the part of your evening commute that is best served by each. You will avoid congested city center roads, reach your destination faster, without too many transfers or long connection waiting times. All while arriving at your doorstep without having to walk that long last mile.

02
Easier to leave
our car at home

Most of us choose our transportation method in the morning, often based on when and from where we will be returning home in the evening. Public transport is normally cheaper but less comfortable. Our own car is more comfortable, but we risk traffic jams and full car parks. Mileus gives us the certainty of a comfortable trip home, so in the morning we can happily opt for public transport.

03
Adapting
to our needs

Do we want to get home fast? Let’s choose the quickest journey available. Do we want to save money? Let’s choose a transfer to a ride-hail service when the price is right for us — we can even set a maximum price limit! Mileus learns and takes our preferences into account when it searches. If we want to get home fast we can choose the quickest journey available. If we want to save money we can choose a transfer to a ride hail service when the price is right. We can even set a maximum price limit!

04
Part of our
application

Mileus is not another application we have to install. On the contrary, it is integrated into applications we already use and are familiar with. Whether it is a ride-hailing service or a search engine for public transport.

01
Making our journeys
more efficient

Thanks to the Mileus technology, we can use the capacity of our cars more efficiently, especially outside of city centres. When the roads in the centre are overloaded, Mileus naturally locates a transfer from public transport to our cars outside of the city centre and utilises our car there. Drivers do not have to return to the centre for their next passenger and the utilisation of our vehicles increases.

A passenger’s story

Getting home after work is slightly different every day. Sometimes the difference is just a matter of minutes, but many times I end up working in a different place or I go out with friends for a while before heading home.

Sometimes I just miss my bus, so I have to wait another 15 or 20 minutes or even more for the next one. And what’s worse, I live quite a stretch away from the nearest bus stop so when I get off, I still need to walk about 700 metres. It can be a nice walk in the morning, but it‘s much worse when I‘m tired in the evening or when it rains or it’s getting dark.

When I’m returning home I’d use a system which offered me a guaranteed transfer point from subway to taxi instead of taking a bus from from my subway stop. And that’s what Mileus can do. It’s cheaper than getting a taxi from the very centre, so I can even afford it more often. And it’s more comfortable and faster than waiting for the bus and walking from the bus stop on my own.

Mileus has changed my mind about taxi and ride-hailing services. Now there is an effective service which combines public transport and ride-hailing services to suit my priorities. Time, distance, price: I always find a connection I can – and want – to use on my way home.

02
Increasing user
engagement

These days, 30% more time is added to our trips due to delays caused by traffic. By 2050, 8 out of 10 people will be living in urban areas and delays caused by congestion in city centres are expected to increase while suburban areas will remain underserved by public transport. With Mileus, our app will become a go-to platform for our users to search for transport alternatives, be it public transport, ride-hail or combinations of both. We will be able to see more of our users’ intentions and desires when it comes to transport.

A ride-hailer’s story

City dwellers on average make 2.2 trips per day. That’s over 60 trips per month. The usual ride-hailing services only cover about 3% of that transport need, i.e. on average their passengers ride with them twice a month. Currently, due to the lack of data, ride-hail operators simply cannot predict when and where their passengers will need them.

Users loyalty is hard to build and even harder to maintain. They could easily be lured away if pushed too hard to ride with a certain company. How many discounts and other incentives have you tried? And how many more can you afford (increasing engagement, sales promotion) while staying in the black?

When we over-promote, people can also start to get annoyed. We need to find the right balance, because of course we need passengers riding with us so that our business makes economic sense. Mileus technology provides us with a way for our passengers to check the possible public transport alternatives as well as trip alternatives, incorporating both public transport and ride-hailing options into a smooth intermodal trip.

  • Brand engagement rises after having experienced Mileus.
  • Passenger frequency increases.
  • Data on passenger intentions becomes more relevant.

Our passengers will have more choices and will engage with our application more often. Sometimes, they’ll choose us as their only route, sometimes they can choose to take public transport. And that’s OK because, more often than not, when they choose us, they‘ll choose the middle way – they‘ll start their journey home using public transport just to transfer to our car later. Although we get less money from each intermodal ride this way, suddenly our passengers start booking our cars more often. And that increase in frequency, in fact, gets us more money from each passenger.

Increased driver utilisation and increased ride-pool matching lowers our service unit cost and price per mile. Instead of one passenger paying e.g. USD 25 for one route, we can get 3 pooled passengers for the same distance each paying USD 12 (USD 36 in total).

On top of that, now we can utilise our first-mover advantage giving us the front-runner position, increasing transaction volume, customer volume and revenue.

03
We keep drivers
on your platform

Mileus finds our next passenger effectively and close by, even in the suburbs. Our drivers will not have to wait long for the next ride once the last one has finished and it reduces the risk that a competing application will get them a passenger first, meaning we lose the capacity to fill our next orders.

A driver’s story

A driver takes passengers from point A to point B as his main job, usually using one dispatching company as the main source of his jobs.

The best is always driving in the city centre or the wider city centre. And so far, there has been enough work in a system like this. Driving longer distances from the city centre still brings a few challenges: waiting a long time for the next ride or making the long journey back to be closer to the city centre where demand is higher. This takes time too, so drivers need to think about their time and efficiency.

After finishing longer rides, drivers often turn to other providers and companies that could use their capacity. They choose to cooperate with other ride-hailing companies or accept rides from traditional taxi dispatchers. When this happens, their “original” company loses out because the drivers are unavailable for some time and the company loses capacity.

With Mileus it works differently. Even though the driver takes a longer route, his company can send new offers using Mileus technology, with ride orders he can accept. Passengers’ requests come his way even when he is further away from the city centre. Either he can take a passenger who has got off public transport to his home, or vice versa. So, thanks to Mileus, there are enough rides further away as well.

This way he is almost always fully occupied, his capacity is fully utilised by a single operator, and he doesn‘t need to switch. He‘s making enough money and is satisfied with his company.

We make you
leaders

With growing congestion levels, municipal authorities are going to take action and start imposing ride-hail and congestion taxes. Mileus enables you to adapt to future regulatory impacts. You will support interoperability with public transport, help increase public transport passenger numbers, and become a partner with, rather than an enemy of the transport authorities.

A city story

Urbanisation continues. City centres are congested while outer city areas often remain underserved. Today between 60 and 70% of people live in urban areas and 30% more time is already added to our trips due to delays caused by traffic. By 2050 more than 80% people will live there. Advancing technology will drive more people from public transport to shared low-capacity vehicles and urban areas will most likely be forced to take action in order to support public transport. And this action will impact ride-hailing services first.

If everything continues the way it is now, it will lead to a worsening situation in the cities where most of the business for our company lies. With Mileus, we become partners to transit authorities and local governments. Without losing our own customers, we increase public transport ridership while alleviating parking issues and blocked streets in the centres. Furthermore, we will collect data which can be used effectively to further improve coexistence of public transport and our services.

On average, ride-hailing operators see about 3% of the urban transportation market, i.e. their analysis can only be based on 2 out of the 60 trips an average citizen makes each month. Mileus enables our users to search for transport routes directly in our apps, allowing us to gain greater insight into their transportation intentions and general transportation patterns.

01
Improving congestion
and parking problems

Mileus offers an alternative for people who drive their cars into the centre that is more comfortable than today’s public transport options. At the same time, it pushes ride-hailing demand further away from the city centre during the evening rush hour, helping to address issues with gridlocked roads and full car parks.

02
Increasing public
transport ridership

Thanks to the link between public transport and ride-hailers, Mileus increases commuting comfort (especially the last-mile problem) for those who opt to use their own car for the journey to work or the centre, or who would only use ride-hailers for the journey home.

03
Reducing pollution
in city centres

Apart from helping to reduce the use of private cars, Mileus helps expand the ride-hailing operational radius to areas outside of the city centre, taking pressure off the congestion in the centre.

04
We provide
valuable data

Thanks to integration with Mileus, municipalities can monitor and measure the impact of intermodality and effectively control the number of private cars or ride-hailers’ vehicles in places served by public transport.
